In essence, FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays) are reprogrammable logic circuits. The circuits of which the FPGA consists are, in contrast to conventional PC processors, reconfigurable to form a new circuit, so that the functionality of your application is implemented in a hardware circuit. Reprogrammable silicon chips are as flexible as software which is executed on a processor. Another benefit is their performance, which is not limited by the number of available processor cores.
